Private Piano Instruction

Students of the piano come in all shapes and sizes, in all ages and abilities, and with their own motivations, desires, and fears. As such, I find it vitally important to meet every one of my students where they are and to discover their musical voice together. Within this educational approach I aim to establish a framework of good practicing habits, fundamental technique, and both short-term and long-term goals so that students flourish at the piano. Students learn staff notation, music theory, improvisation, and repertoire drawn from classical, jazz, and popular traditions.

Private Piano Lessons

I offer private 55-minute lessons for children and adults over the age of 6, and 30-minute lessons for children under the age of 6. Weekly lessons take place at my home studio in Rocklin, CA, although at-distance lessons over Zoom will be considered in light of unique student needs and circumstances. In the first lesson we begin with a basic assessment of the student’s musical background and skills, the establishment of foundational lesson and practice procedures, and a consideration of short and long-term goals. In addition to using purchased method, exercise, and repertoire books, each student will be given a three-ring binder in which they will put Lesson Assignment Sheets, legally-printed sheet music, and other assigned items.
