2011 Resolutions

Resolution:
      1. the progression of a voice part or of the harmony as a whole from a dissonance to a consonance.
      or
      2. the tone or chord to which a dissonance is resolved.
Here are examples of some of my favorite resolutions:
Picture
Zhelobinsky, Prelude No. 1 in C Major
Mmmm... Crunch!
Picture
Bartók, Bagatelle No. 6
I'm B major, no, I'm D minor, B, D, B... Huh?!?!
Picture
Karg-Elert, Choral-Improvisationen für Orgel, No. 7
Looks scarier than it sounds.
Picture
Myakovsky, Eccentricity, No. 3
Would it help to know that the key signature has six flats? Not really.
Picture
J.S. Bach, Prelude and Fugue in C minor, BWV 549
Now someone's just showing off!
In all honesty I have had no time to plan daring resolutions for 2011. Jessica and I have returned to Spokane inspired by our vacation in California. We're ready to purge and clean and keep going forward. My brother (-in-law) RJ has inspired me to develop skills as a handy-man. This resolution was immediately put to the test when we returned to a house with frozen pipes. Can we say crawl space, tools, WD40, and space heaters? Feels good. School starts in two days. Church music happens tomorrow. Numi is back and snoring on the couch beside us. 2011 feels pretty adventurous already! Stay tuned and have fun!
